When Encoding.com launched a decade ago, it was obvious to us that partnering with CDNs was good business. The more that video content was transcoded for multi-platform delivery, the more bits would be pushed through the CDN networks. The dominant CDN at that time was Akamai. Cut to ten years later and Akamai remains the market leader.
It is with great pleasure that we’re announcing our partnership with Akamai. For years, we have believed that a joint Encoding.com and Akamai video processing and delivery solution would provide customers with a best-of-breed platform for delivering high-quality video to end users across the many consumer devices in market. This solution has now come to fruition.
Encoding.com pioneered cloud transcoding-as-a-service and leads a competitive field of vendors. Akamai, having completed their own market analysis for cloud-based video processing platforms, has chosen Encoding.com as their recommended partner for Video-on-Demand (VOD) transcoding and processing. We very much appreciate Akamai’s recognition of Encoding.com as the leader in the space.
Encoding.com powers advanced VOD workflows for many of the large Media & Entertainment brands. But, we also recognize that video is a critical medium for businesses across many verticals, not just entertainment, and we are thrilled to work closely with Akamai to provide its customers with a best-of-breed solution and seamless transition.
Current Akamai MSOD customers will have access to Encoding.com’s suite of micro-services encompassing video transcoding, packaging, automated QC, DRM, dynamic ad insertion and stream conditioning, forensic watermarking, Nielsen support and programmatic editing features among others. Encoding.com and Akamai engineering teams have worked closely to make the transition to Encoding.com as seamless as possible for existing and future Akamai customers. Encoding.com has integrated Akamai’s NetStorage to allow video content to move easily between the two platforms. Encoding.com has also implemented the exact same video profiles currently available within Akamai’s MSOD platform so customers can continue to produce video content for target web, mobile and set-top box platforms without any issues or interruptions. Customers can also instruct Encoding.com to deliver transcoded and packaged video content directly to the specific Akamai storage directories for immediate publishing.
