One of our recent, lesser known, and very useful features of Vid.ly is the ability to serve Vid.ly videos from custom domains. This is in addition to the feature we’ve offered for a while, creating vanity paths from the Vid.ly URL, such as vid.ly/yourvideo. Custom domains allow you to serve your content from yourdomain.com/yourvideo. In essence this allows your to white label the Vid.ly service to hide all vid.ly marks in the interest of emphasizing your brand and content. One thing to keep in mind is that all of the CDN urls on the backend are NOT customizable. This means that scripts, such as the vid.ly embed code, will still retain vid.ly URLs. Another important note, sub-domains will work with any DNS host. Top level domains will only work when using AWS Route 53 DNS hosting. In addition, the CDN urls are visible for a brief moment before a video plays in a mobile browser. These cases are completely un-noticed by the average viewer. Implementing a custom domain is very simple and can be handled via the UI or the API. To learn more about how to implement custom domains with Vid.ly, please reference our knowledgebase article.
