We have steadily evolved our platform in our 5 years of existence. At the core of this evolution are new, innovative, and differentiating features. Some commonplace, some obscure, they all work together to make Encoding.com the leading cloud media services platform. The feature we are highlighting today is known as video hinting and it’s specific to .mp4 and .mov files to better support QuickTime Streaming Server. Hinting is a method for creating a track for each streamable media track in the file that informs QuickTime Streaming Server how and when to deliver each frame of content. The hinting process performs the required calculations up front, allowing QTSS to serve up a higher volume of streams more efficiently. This also provides more flexibility by supporting new codecs without having to upgrade your QuickTime Streaming Server.
If you need to create hint tracks with your encoding output, we make it very easy. If using our UI, you can see how to access this feature in the image below.
We also support this feature in our API. Just use the sample code below.
It’s that easy. Have questions about creating hint tracks for your .mp4 or .mov content? Contact us for a free consultation.
