We’re always adding useful features to our cloud software, and while our latest release mostly focused on updates and bug fixes, we still managed to squeeze in a cool new feature. This release added the ability to embed burnt-in time codes to your video. Burnt-In Time Codes (BiTC) are a human-readable on-screen display of the timecode information. They have several use cases, going back to the linear days of tape based physical media. In the digital age, timecode information is stored as meta-data associated with the file, usually to streamline editing workflows. A perfect example is adding timecodes on a low-res version of of your source content to capture audio for use on high-res output.
Adding Burnt-In Time Codes to your content is easy with Encoding.com. The feature is currently only available through our API. To add BiTCs just use the sample script below:
