Meet the farmhands

Greggory Heil - Founder/CEO Greggory founded Encoding.com in September 2008 and has led the team to its current position as the world's largest and fastest video encoding cloud-based SaaS with thousands of clients and millions of encodes under its belt. Greggory leads the engineer team which developed, amongst other indutry firsts: Instant Encoding™ and Vid.ly - the Universal URL. Greggory brings over 15 years of demonstrated success in international product development and application hosting services. He began his technology career in 1996 at Silicon Valley's first web hosting company, best.com where he productized and launched one of the industry's first hosted e-commerce applications. In 2000, he joined Verio, Inc. as a senior product manager where he managed their international e-commerce product line. After an acquisition, he moved to Amsterdam to serve as the European Director of E-commerce for the Japanese telecom giant, NTT Communications. Most recently Greggory served as the Principal and founder of an interactive development agency, WEB11 Inc. where he has directed the development of numerous sophisticated social networks, broadband video channels, mobile applications and content management systems.

Gregg studied General Science, Pre-Med at the University of Oregon from 1993-1997.
Jeff Malkin - President Jeff Malkin, president of Encoding.com, is a fearless entrepreneur with a proven track record in growing technology startups in the Internet and mobile sectors. Jeff has guided Encoding.com, a Gartner “Cool Vendor 2011,” to its position as the world's largest video encoding service for web and mobile video, with thousands of clients and more than 20 million encodes. Jeff was recently named a Streaming Media All Star for 2011.

Prior to Encoding.com, Jeff founded Razz Inc. (venture funded - $12M). Razz provides consumers in the mobile and social media space with entertaining audio and telephony-based applications. Its services have been distributed by leading wireless carriers worldwide. Prior to Razz, Jeff was CEO of FreeSamples.com, a research and analytics service provider serving top brands in the consumer package goods industry (venture funded - $17M).

Jeff graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Michigan and remains an active musician in the San Francisco community.
Steve Smith - Head of Sales Steve runs the Encoding.com sales team. He enjoys scouting, recruiting and coaching scrappy salespeople, pricing new products, and disrupting existing markets with massively innovative products and services. Prior to Encoding.com, he was Yelp's first strategic account executive, led sales for the first ad-supported 411 provider, and managed SMB sales for the most profitable industrial supply distributor in America. When not keeping the lights on for great companies, he's a Red Sox fan and a paraglider pilot.
Karalyn Capone - Level 1 Support Manager Hailing from the East Coast, Karalyn brings many years of experience working in post-production, compression and customer service to the Encoding.com Support Team. Most recently, Karalyn worked for Telestream, as an integral member of their Enterprise Support Team and lead technician for the Episode Engine product line. Prior to that, Karalyn ran operations for a video post-production and DVD authoring house called People Productions based in Boulder, CO. She also spent years as a firefighter. Karalyn began her career in radio production at WBOQ (Boston) when analog (tapes) were still the medium. Her incessant nomadic traveling has brought Karalyn to San Francisco where she manages client relations and customer service for the Encoding.com Support Department.

Karalyn received her degree in garlic and video post-production from the Art Institute of New England in Brookline, MA.
Markus Peek - Level 2 Support Manager With over twelve years of video engineering experience, Markus Peek has been at the forefront of the digital video revolution. Originally inspired by video artists and early computer graphics, he joined Terran Interactive in 1998 and provided on-demand and live webcast solutions for a wide range of clients. In 2002, he continued to support the television and film industry in Los Angeles with Moviola, and with Tekserve Pro Video in New York City. He has built solutions using every major encoding platform, including AnyStream, Digital Rapids, FlipFactory, FFmpeg, Tandberg, and SkyStream. He is also an expert in related technologies for production, media asset management, video quality, and broadcast signal control.

Markus graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Northern Illinois University, and has earned certifications for Avid ACSR, Apple Final Cut Studio, and Microsoft MCSE. He has taught video compression classes for The American Film Institute, Apple's QuickTime Group, LA Siggraph, and the USC Digital Cinema Lab.
