Faster than Realtime!
by Jeff Malkin

We are obsessed with speed @ Encoding.com.  With the current handful of platform releases, we continue to focus on providing you the fastest encoding on the planet.  You can now utilize Turbo Encoding and Instant Encoding to generate faster-than-realtime encoding!  If you just think about video encoding… bam, we've already processed your file.

As you may now, AWS raised the roof on file size storage for S3 users.  With the limit of 5 GBs per file on S3 now removed, we've been seeing some amazing results with encoding super-sized videos using Clive, our platform.  Files upwards of 4 hours are not new territory for us, but we're still excited to share the news about not only supporting huge Source files, but processing them at blazing speeds. Here's a quick blurb on how-to and results of encoding a 40 GB HD source video:

If using Amazon S3 for storage of your Source video, you'll need to use their Multipart uploader tool to get your video up to their Cloud.  If your Source is located on an FTP, make sure to enable our Instant Encoding feature to start the encode process while we download your file.

Source clip length: 02:23:00

Source clip spec: 1920x1080 @ 23.98, H.264 mkv @ 1536kbps, 6 channels of DCA audio

Encoded to: 1920x1080 mp4 @ 1000kbps

Total encode time = 02:21:00 using Twin Turbo.  That's like Carl Lewis speed.
